Address or coordinates?
An address or business name is easiest and opens the matching Google Maps listing, with reviews, opening hours and photos. Use coordinates when you need a precise spot: an event in a park, a delivery entrance, a parking area or a rural property. In Google Maps, right-click (or long-press) any point and the coordinates appear at the top of the menu; click them to copy.
Where to use a location QR code
- Invitations and event posters
- Airbnb and holiday-rental welcome guides
- Delivery notes, receipts and business cards
- Signs pointing to a hard-to-find entrance
Does it open Apple Maps?
The code uses an official Google Maps link, which opens the Google Maps app if it’s installed and the Google Maps website otherwise. That works on every phone.
How it works
The code contains a Google Maps link built from your address or coordinates. Phones open it like any other link: in the Google Maps app if it is installed, or in the browser. From there people can see the place, check opening hours and tap Directions.
Getting the location right
- Search for your address in Google Maps first. If the right place appears at the top, the same words will work in the code.
- If your business has a Google Maps listing, use its exact name and town, so the code opens the listing with your reviews and photos.
- For places without a clear address, such as a field, a trailhead, a gate or a market stall, use coordinates.
- Coordinates use decimal degrees, like
51.5074, -0.1278. Southern latitudes and western longitudes are negative.
Tips for printed directions
- Print the address as text next to the code, for people who prefer to read it.
- On invitations, add the time and any parking or entrance notes, since the map won’t show them.
- Scan the code before printing and check that the pin lands where you expect.
